Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev won his first title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.
The Russian, a former number one, has endured a challenging year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.
Now training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.
This marks his maiden championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court since March of that year.
The win also signifies he has secured 21 victories at 21 various competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player the champion.
"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in Halle in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and frequent outbursts on court had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was finished.
However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.
He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial professional championship, took control to force a final set.
Moutet saved 4 initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.
Fittingly, he earned victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
